Pharmanova has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a Spanish company, Fredlab, to set up a Health Hub in Zambia, which will result into production of quality essential medicines within the country.
The signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of the first-ever Zambia-European Union Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Forum held between 1st to 3rd March 2023 and was witnessed by Commerce and Industry Minister, Chipoka Mulenga, Tourism Minister, Rodney Sikumba, European Union Ambassador to Zambia, Jacek Jankowski, Health Ministry Permanent Secretary Prof. Lackson Kasonka, Germany Ambassador and Spanish Consular representative.
Pharmanova Zambia Limited Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Umar, said the partnership with Fredlab will ensure consistent supply of medicines and guarantee quality and superiority of the same.
Meanwhile, Fredlab Manager, JULIO RUIZ DE ALDA said through the partnership, a world class facility will be created to enable the provision of affordable and quality health care to the people of Zambia and beyond.
The signing of the MOU between the Zambia and Spanish pharmaceutical companies is one of the concrete outcomes of the pharmaceutical manufacturing forum and the partnership between Pharmanova and Fredlab, and with other European players already on board notably Rommelag and Bdv Behrens, to set up a high tech and quality standard production health hub, is a significant milestone.
This milestone will contribute to delivering the #ZPMI (Zambia Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Initiative) objectives that supports through its regional #TEI on MAV+ (Manufacturing and Access to Vaccines, Medicines and Health Technologies)! The ambition and wish to make Zambia a pharmaceutical hub & center of excellence and towards ‘invest and made in Zambia’ becomes a reality
