In a significant collaborative effort, Pharmanova Zambia Limited and the Lusaka City Council (LCC) have joined forces in the relentless fight against cholera, marking a crucial milestone in community health and well-being.
On the 8th of November, 2023, Pharmanova Zambia Limited, with a deep commitment to community welfare, donated 3,744 bottles of 250ml Klori-pure chlorine and 600 bottles of 750ml bleach to the Lusaka City Council. This generous donation serves as a proactive measure in preparing communities for cholera prevention.
Ms. Chilando Chitangala, Mayor of Lusaka, expressed her gratitude upon receiving the donation. She emphasized the invaluable impact of the chlorine in treating water and disinfecting the city, acknowledging it as a significant contribution to the prevention and control of cholera and other diarrheal diseases.
During the handover ceremony, Mr. John Chintu, Head of Quality Assurance at Pharmanova Zambia Limited, reiterated the company’s unwavering commitment to saving lives. He emphasized that “beyond being a business objective, this commitment is at the core of Pharmanova’s existence. In response to the cholera outbreak in Lusaka, the company felt a profound duty to swiftly contribute and stand in solidarity with the people of Zambia.”
Highlighting the practical impact of the donation, Mr Chintu mentioned that each bottle of Klori-Pure Chlorine can purify 667 liters of water. A donation of 3,744 bottles equates to two and a half million liters of water in Lusaka, providing a significant boost to water safety and community health.
Following the handover, teams from both Lusaka City Council and Pharmanova embarked on a mission of communication to Cholera Hot Spot areas. Their goal was to educate and demonstrate to the community how to effectively use the donated products in the ongoing fight against cholera.
This collaborative initiative stands as a shining example of corporate social responsibility and community partnership. As Pharmanova and LCC work hand in hand, the impact on public health is profound, underscoring their shared commitment to a healthier, safer, and more resilient community.
